 Hanuman Chalisa in English Translation

1. With the dust of the Guru's lotus feet, I cleanse the mirror of my mind and narrate the pure glory of Shri Raghuvar, which bestows the four fruits of life.

2. Knowing myself to be ignorant, I meditate on the Wind God's son, Hanuman, who grants strength, wisdom, and knowledge and removes all sufferings and impurities.

3. Victory to Hanuman, the ocean of wisdom and virtue,
Victory to the monkey chief who illuminates the three worlds.

4. You are the messenger of Ram, the abode of immeasurable strength,
Anjani's son, and known as the son of the Wind God.

5. O Mahavir, you are endowed with great strength and courage,
You dispel evil thoughts and are the companion of good intellect.

6. Your complexion is golden, and you are clad in fine attire,
You wear earrings and have curly hair.

7. You hold a thunderbolt and a flag in your hands,
And wear the sacred thread of Munja grass on your shoulder.

8. You are the incarnation of Lord Shiva and the delight of Kesari,
Your glory and valor are revered throughout the world.

9. You are learned, virtuous, and extremely clever,
Always eager to perform tasks for Lord Ram.

10. You delight in listening to the glories of Lord Ram,
And reside in the hearts of Ram, Lakshman, and Sita.

11. Assuming a subtle form, you appeared to Sita,
Assuming a monstrous form, you burned Lanka.

12. Assuming a gigantic form, you destroyed the demons,
And accomplished the task of Lord Ram.

13. You brought the Sanjeevani herb and revived Lakshman,
Lord Ram embraced you with great joy.

14. Raghupati (Lord Ram) praised you greatly,
Saying, "You are as dear to me as my brother Bharat."

15. The thousand-headed Sheshnag sings your glory,
So does Lord Ram, embracing you.

16. Sanaka, Sanatan, Lord Brahma, the sages,
Narad, Saraswati, and the serpent god Sesha sing your praises.

17. Yama, Kubera, and the guardians of the directions,
Poets and scholars are unable to describe your glory.

18. You rendered great help to Sugriva,
By introducing him to Lord Ram and restoring his kingdom.

19. You convinced Vibhishan to accept your advice,
Thus, he became the king of Lanka, known throughout the world.

20. You swallowed the sun, traveling thousands of miles,
Thinking it to be a sweet fruit.

21. Carrying Lord Ram's ring in your mouth,
You leaped across the ocean, an amazing feat.

22. All difficult tasks in the world become easy,
With your grace.

23. You are the guardian of Lord Ram's door,
No one can enter without your permission.

24. All happiness is attained by those who take refuge in you,
There is no need to fear when you are the protector.

25. When you roar, the three worlds tremble,
All evil spirits and ghosts run away.

26. Diseases and pains are eradicated,
By constant repetition of your name, O Mahavir.

27. Hanuman saves those from all difficulties,
Who meditate on him with mind, action, and words.

28. Lord Ram is the ascetic king of all,
You accomplish all tasks for him.

29. And those who bring any desire to you,
They receive the fruit of a fulfilled life.

30. Your glory is renowned in all four ages,
And illuminates the whole world.

31. You are the protector of sages and saints,
The destroyer of demons, and dear to Lord Ram.

32. You are the giver of the eight siddhis (supernatural powers) and nine nidhis (treasures),
As Mother Sita has granted you this boon.

33. You hold the essence of devotion to

Lord Ram,
May you always remain the devoted servant of Raghupati.

34. By singing your praises, one attains Lord Ram,
And all sufferings of countless births are erased.

35. At the end of life, one goes to the abode of Lord Ram,
Where one is known as a devotee of Hari (Lord Vishnu).

36. There is no need to worship any other deity,
All happiness comes from serving Hanuman alone.

37. All difficulties are removed, all pain is erased,
By remembering Hanuman, the brave and powerful one.

38. Victory, victory, victory to Lord Hanuman!
Grant us your grace, O Guru, like a kind teacher.

39. Whoever recites this Hanuman Chalisa a hundred times,
Will be freed from bondage and will experience great joy.

40. Whoever reads this Hanuman Chalisa,
Will attain perfection, with Lord Shiva as the witness.

41. Tulsidas, who is always the servant of the Lord,
Prays that Lord Hanuman may reside in his heart.
